Die Vorbereitung bei Frau oder Mann ist fast identisch. Waschen, desinfizieren und das Einbringen des Gleitgels wie oben beschrieben. Bei der Frau ist das Einbringen des Gleitgels natürlich viel ein- facher, zum einen ist die Harnröhre sehr kurz, zum anderen hat diese keinen Knick wie beim Mann. Das gleiche trifft für das Einführen des Katheters zu. Bei der Frau geht dies relativ ohne Probleme. Nach dem Einbringen des Gleitgels in die Harnröhre, auch den Katheter selbst mit etwas Gleitgel bestreichen und diesen dann an der Harnröhrenmündung ansetzen und einführen. Beim Mann ist es etwas komplizierter, da die Harnröhre viel länger und auch noch einen Knick hat. Dieser Knick sitzt im Bereich der Prostata. Beim Entfernen des Katheters müsst Ihr diesen Vorgang in umgekehr ter Reihenfolge durchführen (die leere Spritze aufstecken, das Blockwasser dann langsam zurück ziehen, gefüllte Spritze abziehen). Nach dem Blocken des Ballons könnt Ihr den Katheter loslassen. Er gleitet von selbst wieder ein Stück aus der Harnröhre heraus bis der Ballon am inneren Schliessmuskel der Blase anliegt.
